I’d bring a black and white approach to our regions system of planning so that the grey areas are no longer exploited.
With immediate effect, I’d address various issues to ensure that development cannot impact on the character of existing communities.
FairPlay that’s a bold statement to make….but to do so does require a technical understanding of the problems our region faces and of the available solutions to make a difference.
In part the planning scheme is the problem but that can take years to go through a highly regulated process to change.
When it comes to planning consultation is the key. In making any necessary changes I’d also commit to consultation at every available opportunity.
One thing is for sure, the same people who broke our region’s planning to advantage their developer donor mates have never bothered to fix it yet.
We can’t afford more of the same.
